Project Overview
Samah Co. is proud to have partnered with TechnipFMC to execute the FMC GEMINIS Machine Foundations Project. This endeavor highlights our commitment to delivering state-of-the-art construction and engineering solutions that meet the most demanding industrial standards. The project encompassed a wide range of technical and civil activities, all meticulously planned and executed to ensure the foundations were robust, vibration-resistant, and compliant with the operational requirements of the FMC GEMINIS machinery.
Our team utilized advanced construction techniques, high-quality materials, and strict quality control measures, including Field Density Testing (FDT) at critical stages, to deliver a durable and high-performance foundation.
Scope of Work Highlights:
1. Excavation and Groundwork:
a) Concrete Removal and Surface Preparation:
- Precision cutting of existing floor concrete using road-cutting machines.
- Breaking and removal of floor concrete with backhoe equipment (Boclain machine).
b) Excavation:
- Excavation to the required depth and dimensions using backhoe loaders, ensuring accuracy and adherence to design specifications.
- Backfilling with a 25 cm thick base course (Type A-1 material), compacted to ensure stability.
c) Field Density Testing (FDT):
- Conducted FDT tests during backfilling and compaction to ensure the base course met the required density and load-bearing capacity.
d) Soil Protection:
- Soil termite treatment applied beneath the slab-on-grade to protect against long-term deterioration.
2. Foundation Preparation:
a) Base Layer Installation:
- Placement of 300-micron polyethylene sheets as a moisture barrier.
- Pouring 2500 psi lean concrete to create a stable and even foundation base.
b) Structural Elements:
- Construction of concrete hollow block (CHB) walls as per project specifications.
3. Specialized Concrete Works:
a) High-Strength Concrete Pouring:
- Installation of steel formwork to precise design specifications.
- Pouring and curing of 5500 psi reinforced concrete, providing exceptional durability and stability for the machinery.
b) Vibration Resistance:
- Application of a 5 cm thick vibration-resistant material around the foundation, ensuring the machinery remains stable during operation.
4. Surface Protection and Coating:
a) Advanced Protective Layer:
- Application of a single layer of 100% pure polyurea spray coating, 1 mm thick, over the foundation surface to safeguard against environmental factors, wear, and corrosion.
Project Challenges & Achievements:
- Technical Expertise: Successfully managed complex technical requirements, including precision FDT testing, high-strength concrete works, and advanced coating applications.
- Client-Focused Execution: Tailored the project scope to meet TechnipFMC’s specific operational needs, ensuring quality, durability, and compliance with industrial standards.
- Efficient Resource Management: Delivered the project within the timeline by effectively coordinating materials, labor, and machinery while adhering to strict safety protocols.
